- reasoning – it’ll help me keep track of all of his firsts
- I love this one; I’ll add it to my registry

What I did:
- Brings to hospital
- forgets it exists because baby
- Pulls out once during unusually quiet moment
- imagines all the cool things I’ll be able to fill in
- Fast forward to present
- rushes to fill everything in
- extremely thankful for pictures and videos that have a date 🙂
- haven’t actually printed any of the pictures to put in book…
What I learned from this experience:
- I don’t (didn’t) need a book
- pictures and videos on cell phones make up for the book
- I haven’t printed pictures in years so what made me think a book would change that
- I’ve forgotten lots of stuff so some things only have the month
- I don’t check it every time he hits a milestone
To all of you first time parents who might be considering a baby/memory book ask yourself these questions before purchasing one or adding it to your registry:
- Will I remember to fill it out
- most start off with basic info and hand/ foot prints
- Am I honestly going to print out accompanying photos
- do you have a printer at home or will you need to have them printed elsewhere
- What am I going to do with it later
- Will I keep it in a box filled with other keepsakes for that child
- Do I plan on giving it to them when they’re old enough
- Will they care
- What will I do with it if they don’t want it
With that said I plan on finishing his entire book and apologizing to future children because I doubt I’ll do this again… I hope this is helpful to someone who is considering adding one to their registry or buying one.
We’ve been in the house for a few months now and I understand why other people kept telling us our house would always be a work in progress. We haven’t officially completed any room but we’ve done a bunch of stuff halfway. The big problem is the unexpected. We fix one thing then another goes haywire. For example, we finally bought a washer and dryer, installed it and have been enjoying it then our heater went out. This whole house has been a bunch of wins and losses.
One recent win was finding a solution to our door problem. We’d been debating whether or not we’d buy doors for 3 rooms and wait on the rest or if we’d replace all the doors in the house at once so they could all match. We came up with an affordable quirky solution.
We received 3 sets of window panels from family that sat in a bag in the corner for longer than I’d like to admit. After putting it on the back burner for a while, I bought curtain rods and decided which curtains would go where. Then hubby came up with a great idea. Sure he was kind of joking (I hope) but it was a good idea. He said to hang a bead curtain up as a temporary door. Of course I wasn’t going to do that because it didn’t fit in with the rest of our house but it got me thinking. I could use the extra panels as doors. They’d be fun, effective (blackout curtains) and cute. Later on the same day we went to my favorite store and bought the spring loaded rods pictured below. I love them!! They were the right price and perfect length for our hallway. It’s not the fanciest thing in the world but it is a great temporary solution that instantly made our house feel a little more put together.

31 Days down (4 full weeks completed)
Week 1 – Excited but went to Red Lobster with my mom. I went right back to the diet for my next meal and still managed to lose an amazing amount of weight. (thanks to breastfeeding and period)
Week 2 – Husband talking me off the cheating edge. If it wasn’t for him I’m sure I would’ve given up.
Week 3 – I did terrible by cheating off and on the whole week but I didn’t quit. I got right back to it the next meal.
Week 4 – I had a plan. All of our meals were planned out and I had nuts, coffee and tea as my go to items when I felt like cheating. However that didn’t work… I cheated but regretted nothing because I enjoyed it!
What I learned:
Perfection doesn’t matter as much as improvement. I feel very good about not giving up this time and I know I’ll reach my goals if I don’t quit! I also realized weight loss without exercise could leave me dissatisfied with my end result… which is why I changed my goals to include exercise of some kind.
Cooking with Pinterest; mostly diet friendly addition!
I love this recipe because it was simple and I had all the ingredients! The downside is while the nuts, EVOO and spices were diet friendly the amount of nuts I used was not. So I unfortunately won’t be repeating this meal.
This recipe is tasty and a great way to incorporate more veggies. I used the original spaghetti squash recipe from Pinterest and added bell peppers and spicy sausage to it (no sauce). Another win but this one will make it back into the rotation.
This has been one of my favorites! It includes cabbage, ground turkey, black beans and 1/2 tbsp of Costco salsa plus Cholula. It is fast, easy and can be prepared ahead of time.
I wanted to switch up our cheat days by only eating out for one meal and buying snacks. Below are my reasons for doing so:
- Save money
- Stay in cooking mode making it easier to return to cooking all our meals
- Slightly healthier than eating out all day
- Allows me to try new things that we can’t eat during the week
This was the end of our first 4 weeks. I specify weeks because I’m counting my month as the 12th however we’ve technically already finished a 4 week period. Anyways I will be trying to work out a publishing schedule that allows me to post one food, life change, married life and parent life update per month. I’m not sure how this schedule should go or if it’ll be in the same order every month but this is my writing goal. I want to hold myself accountable for getting out and doing something with my family while getting fit and cooking. This blog will be the place I do that. I hope you join me on my ever changing journey to the best mommy I can be 🙂

I have a ton of life changes to update so look for weight, healthy lifestyle, food, date nights, home and my son. This post will be strictly about my weight and the healthy lifestyle changes I’ve made.
After taking the pictures below, I realized I NEED to lose weight in order to feel better, set a healthy example for my son and to get back to the body I had when I first met my husband. I only showed the side profile so I can see the progress my chin makes but other than that I’m still not brave enough to post my picture for the internet to see. Maybe one day I will but for now I want to focus strictly on weight rather than picking apart my facial flaws. Yes, I would sit on my computer obsessing over all the things I’d like to correct or change or wish I had but that destructive behavior is for another post that might never be written or published for public viewing. Drum roll please…

Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Body
It’s been about 21 days. The first week I was full of excitement but I went to Red Lobster with my mom. The second week was full of my husband talking me off the cheating edge and if it wasn’t for him I’m sure I would’ve given up. Going forward I will be updating my progress the 12th of every month unless it falls on cheat day (Saturday). Cheats days will be spent eating everything that isn’t nailed down 🙂 Healthier me will see you next time.
